Albania, officially the Republic of Albania, is a sovereign country located in southeastern Europe. Covering an area of approximately 28,748 square kilometers (11,100 square miles), it borders Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, North Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south and southeast.

Physical Features

Albania's physical geography is characterized by mountainous landscapes, coastal plains, and pristine beaches. Albania is divided into 12 counties (Albanian: qark). These counties are further subdivided into 61 municipalities (Albanian: bashki) and 373 municipalities (Albanian: komunë).

The largest city and the capital of Albania is Tirana. Other major cities include Durrës, Elbasan, Shkodër, and Vlorë. The country has a population of approximately 2.8 million people.
